Geopolitics and Food

With Brexit and the US election sending ripples across the world, it's only logical to expect implications to food prices and supplies. Brexit sees the United Kingdom forced to consider agricultural policy, food safety standards and import tariffs following the departure from the European Union, and is now looking for new trade deals. The United States may seem the logical trading partner, but Donald Trump's 'America First' orientation is expected to see American standards and practices required in the UK. Prof Tim Benton, Professor of Population Ecology at the University of Leeds, discusses how geopolitics and food and drink are entwined, potentially setting off chain reactions across the globe.
